Speaking of Energy Medicine
My first experience of energy medicine was about 23 years ago when I was quite stressed out and sitting at an outdoor table in front of a Victorian building I had restored on the Strand in Galveston. I felt that I was in way over my head at the time, hence the stress. A paralegal from my husband's law firm was sitting next to me alongside some other friends. I was talking about how overwhelming my life was at that point, raising two young children, doing the expected volunteer work, and restoring our historic buildings and leasing them out. Casey, the paralegal, asked if it would be okay if she touched my back. I consented. She put her hand over one of my adrenal glands, and it felt as if someone poured a dense, calming liquid into my body. I could feel it move all over my insides, relaxing and soothing me.
I probably had a surprised look on my face, and turned to her and said, "What is that? I can feel something moving all through my body!" She smiled and replied, "That is Reiki." That was my first experience of energy medicine. I definitely could feel it, even though I had absolutely no prior conscious knowledge of it at all. I had no expectation that I would feel anything, and yet I can still vividly recall the strong sensation of her hand on my back that day.
I suppose that there must have been some further conversations on the subject, I do not recall, it was a long time ago. But there must have been, as she ended up initiating me into Reiki levels one and two. She is the one who, after one of the initiations, suggested I put my hands on her shoulders, close my eyes and look inside her body, affording me my first look at the inside of a human body. I found to my surprise that I actually could see inside the body easily! I saw sticky brown stuff inside her lungs, and she reminded me that she was a smoker. I saw other things, too, and yet amazed her by noticing a small red thing on the inside of her outer right ankle. She had cut herself shaving her legs that morning, and was wearing pants, so I could not have possibly known about that cut. This was the beginning of an amazing journey.
Later, after I had been initiated into Reiki, I curiously tried experiments with other friends of mine in Galveston. Remember, this is the mid to late 1980's, to my knowledge, almost no one knew about this kind of thing at all. After she pulled a muscle exercising, I placed my hand on my friend Joy's thigh, with her permission, and she remarked that something weird was happening, that my hand felt like a heating pad on her leg. She looked puzzled, almost alarmed, and wanted to know what that was. As I had earlier experienced, she was very aware that something odd and quite different was going on besides a simple human touch. And I experimented with other friends, touching them without telling them to expect anything unusual. And they all felt something different, something they puzzled over and asked about. This answered my question: Do you have to believe in Reiki for it to work? The answer is no. People can feel it who are not expecting to feel it, and so something is objectively occurring, whether we apply "faith" or not. Many times in the following years, I have observed this energy healing people when nothing else had helped.
Later, in May of 1988, I was initiated by someone else as a Reiki Master. I have since initiated lots and lots of people myself - hundreds, actually. So energy medicine is nothing new to me now. I always check the energy coming out of the initiates hands, and it is always flowing well. Oddly, the energy feels slightly different coming through each person. It is like a signature. You know how you can write the same words as the next person, but each person's handwriting is different?. So it is with an energy signature. We each have our own unique vibration, and you can feel a distinct difference from one person's touch to the next.
Another form of energy medicine I have experienced includes Sat Nam Rasayan, with Guru Dev, from Rome. This is a form of energy medicine that was developed a long time ago by Kundalini Yoga masters, as I understand. And Guru Dev is a Kundalini Yoga Master. I was worked on by him once here in Houston many years ago, and was a volunteer test subject in one of the classes he taught in Austin, where he worked on me again. The only thing I recall about his class was the use of mudras in healing! And when Guru Dev worked on me, the energy literally moved around inside my body as tangibly as a water hose snaking about. I will never forget the power of those energy sessions with him.
My next surprising leap where energy medicine is concerned came in March of 2002, when I took my first BodyTalk class. I had been practicing massage therapy and Reiki for years before I discovered BodyTalk. I have been practicing it ever since that first class. It is a very powerful form of energy medicine, with its roots in Reiki, and I have personally seen it cure the so-called incurable; not every time, but many, many times. It can give hope to the hopeless. This synthesis of energy medicine was brought to the planet via a Reiki Master, JohnVeltheim, who is also an Australian chiropractor/acupuncturist now living in Florida. It is heady stuff, this BodyTalk, a synthesis of many other healing modalities. I have studied it all the way through to the latest developments, and most of my classes were with the founder, though he has hundreds of instructors. I do energy medicine full-time, which is rather unusual at this point in time for anyone to do full-time. It has been a pleasure to work with this energy, and to get acquainted with John, who is a very dynamic, interesting human being. I do not always agree totally with his philosophy of life and spirituality, but there is no doubt he is a genius at bringing to humanity a very powerful synthesis of energy medicine modalities.
Some different forms of energy medicine one might run across include cranio-sacral therapy, Neuro-Emotional Technique, Psych-K, emotional freedom technique, and acupuncture, which is quite ancient. Acupuncture balances the flow of "chi" or energy along tiny rivers or pathways known as meridians in the body. Like acupuncture, medical chi gong is another ancient form of energy medicine, and it started long, long ago with Chinese shamans called Wu Ji doctors, who could also manipulate energy - including the weather - just like any other good shaman. There is also the energy medicine as practiced by all the other shamans all over the planet, who can remove energy implants from the body to affect healing. The Peruvian shamans of the Q'ero people can actually lift the lightbody out of the physical body and work on it free of the physical, and they have done so for thousands of years. So, 21st century humanity is not just now inventing energy medicine, it has been around for millennia. We are just re-awakening to it. Many are now convincing themselves that it is okay to notice it, since we now have machines that can measure it. Odd it is in this culture of ours, how it is okay to observe this kind of thing with a machine but not with your own sensory input! Why do we not trust our own experience?
Lastly, another form of energy medicine that actually is new is EDINA which is a form of energy medicine that works on the energy field all the way out to the 12th dimension (for want of a better word,) to help with the ascencion process. This one I am bringing into the planet myself. It is rooted in the same source as Reiki, but is more far-reaching.
